At Stanburn Primary School, we are proud to have a remarkable piece of local history right on our doorstep; an original above-ground Second World War blast shelter located within our school grounds.

Built during wartime to protect children and staff during air raids, the shelter is a powerful reminder of the resilience, courage, and community spirit of the past. Structures like this were essential in helping schools continue to function safely during one of the most challenging periods in modern history.

Today, the blast shelter is an invaluable part of our learning environment. It enriches our curriculum by giving pupils a unique, real-world link to history, helping them engage with the past in a meaningful and memorable way. It sparks curiosity, encourages questioning, and brings historical learning to life beyond the classroom.
