At Stanburn, we believe that studying Design and Technology allows children to develop essential life skills, which expansively prepare children to be a vital part of the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world; the subject allows children to become active creators, rather than passive participants, of the ‘made’ world surrounding them. Design and Technology helps all children to become discriminating and informed consumers and potential innovators.
According to the National Curriculum, the study of Design and Technology means that ‘pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.’ Crucially, the creative and innovative nature of Design and Technology encourages children to become risk takers and to challenge themselves to become creative thinkers and problem solvers in order to make positive changes to their quality of life.
