A Note from the Headteacher 4th May 2021

It has been a great start back to the summer term with the children excited and engaged in their learning, so please do talk to your children about what they have been doing at school so that they can discuss their learning with you at home.

At last, it feels as though we are properly back in the swing of things now, and attendance last week was a fantastic 97% or very close every day.

As you probably know from talking to your child that over the past two weeks, we have carried out assessments and the teachers have been reviewing targets and monitoring the children’s learning during their lessons. We now have a clear plan for their next steps so it is a good time for our parents’ meetings to take place. Please make sure if you have not yet booked an appointment with your child’s teacher that you do so as soon as possible.

We are currently giving consideration to a number of events that would normally take place during the summer term at school. The Government continues to move ahead with their ‘roadmap out of lockdown’ and we are planning how this will affect some of the events in school towards the latter part of the term. We are considering how we can continue with certain things in the safest way possible, although any arrangements will be subject to changes based on the Government’s requirements; we will, of course, provide you with more information as soon as we can. It is worth noting that the Government has recently made some updates to the DfE Covid guidance for parents. This has been updated and made more reader-friendly and you can access the document by clicking on the link provided. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak

Thank you to everyone who supported the recent Big Pedal, the giant inter-school cycling/scooting competition that took place across the whole country. It was terrific to see so many pupils, staff, and parents coming to school on bikes or scooters or even ditching all mechanical modes of transport and opting to walk. Thank you so much for your support, and it also helped make Abercorn Road and surrounding roads just a little bit calmer! For more information go to www.bigpedal.org.uk.

Best wishes,
Mrs C Lansdown
