Anti Idling Event

IDLING ACTION LONDON

Last week we were joined by Jack Alexander from Idling Action London. Jack delivered a Clean Air Workshop to our Year 5 pupils teaching them about the harmful impact of idling vehicles (vehicles parked with the engine running) on the environment and our health. Year 5 created posters which Jack will be turning into a banner for us to display outside our school gates as a reminder to drivers visiting our school. Six of our Year 5 pupils then spent time talking with drivers in the run up to home time, sharing what they had learnt from their workshop and asking drivers to pledge to turn their engines off when parked. They were joined by Jack, Mrs Hewett, Sonal Mistry (Parent Governor) and Rupesh Shah (Parent), along with Nisha Durgacharan and Annabelle Fosu from Harrow's Travel Planning Team. The pupils did a superb job representing Stanburn in our local community! We are delighted that Jack will be returning to work with us again in the Autumn term.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Air pollution is a serious issue in the roads surrounding our school site. We are supporting Idling Action London’s 'Engine Off Every Stop' campaign which aims to spread the message about the importance of switching engines off. Please remember that we encourage families to make active journeys to and from school. If you have to travel to and from school by car, we need your help! Please help us make a difference for our school community and local residents by turning your engine off once you are safely parked. It is a simple way to tackle harmful emissions like nitrogen dioxide and improve our local air quality. For more information about Idling Action London's campaign, please visit: https://idlingaction.london/ and look out for our new banner in September!
