Digital Leaders lead and promote online safety in the school by completing the Childnet training programme and running events and assemblies for other pupils.
The Childnet Digital Leaders Programme aims to empower children and young people to champion digital citizenship and digital creativity within their schools and to educate their peers, parents and teachers about staying safe online.
This youth leadership programme offers pupils an exciting online community, structured training and ongoing support from Childnet’s expert team, helping make online safety learning fun and effective and helping schools work towards an outstanding whole school community approach to online safety.
They participate in Webinars with key industry figures to discuss online safety in the wider world, including Lego UK, Google, and YouTube.
They lead on Internet Safety across the school, alongside key members of staff, educating and advising other pupils, and raising awareness.
On Safer Internet Day the Digital Leaders were invited to the BT Centre in London to work with Childnet on this year's campaign - Create, connect and share respect; a better internet starts with you. The children introduced activities to representatives from leading technology companies, government and youth organisations. They also worked with pupils from three other schools to prepare and give presentations to 170 invited guests. The Digital Leaders showed just how knowledgeable they are about online safety and were able to deliver key messages articulately and with confidence.
Following the conference, they ran some similar activities and presentations for parents at a special Internet Safety Coffee morning in school.
