Physical Education

At Stanburn, all children have the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, continue a healthy lifestyle and using the medium of sport, build their self-esteem and become deep, flexible, creative thinkers. We believe our high quality PE curriculum enables pupils to develop personal qualities and upholds our school values of: Respect, Curiosity, Kindness, Co-operation, Aspiration, Resilience and Courage.

We offer a vibrant, varied and stimulating programme of activities to ensure that children progress physically during their time at Stanburn. We are proud of our inspiring PE curriculum, which is based on the PE Hub learning resource.

At Stanburn we also value competition as a fundamental part of the PE Curriculum offer.

Competition against others is important for children; it teaches patience and how to be graceful in defeat and it also shows that it isn’t always the biggest, fastest and most gifted children who win, but also those that try hard, practice and put their mind to the challenge.

Team competition is just as important as individual competition as it teaches children to work collaboratively, communicate and solve problems, as well as ensuring they work together towards a common goal.

Inter and intra sports competitions are a particular strength of the school and we would warmly welcome you to admire our collection of trophies or our collection of photos from our recent competitions on our PE Board. We also regularly document the achievements of our sports teams in our school newsletter (which can all be found on our school website).

Although we enjoy the competitive nature of sport, we also appreciate and encourage the importance of children ‘having a go’ and striving to set and improve upon their own personal bests. We encourage all children to develop their understanding of the way in which they can use equipment and apparatus safely, yet imaginatively, to achieve their personal goals.

Children at Stanburn are encouraged to live an active healthy life-style and as a school we promote positive experiences of being physically active in a number of ways for example through our ‘Change 4 Life’ programme.

Sports Premium Funding is spent effectively to develop a lasting legacy for PE and Sport at school. All children are presented with the opportunity to develop spiritually, socially, culturally, morally and physically through the teaching of Physical Education at Stanburn Primary School.

Our PE Curriculum Intent is to ensure:
